I realize this image is overused but it's so appropriate here.
I don’t have a tethered cord but I do have an abnormal EMG. Next step is to get an MRI of the rest of my spine and my brain. Dr. J. is not creating a good outlook for me. She’s not coming right out and saying it but I can see the concern on her face.
This morning, I went to my 4th session of physical therapy. I like going and was surprised to learn today that I am making no progress. I have to see my PCP today so the PT wrote a note I can hand deliver:
Pt has + neurological signs with increased tone in left leg. Concerned re: lack of diagnosis for significant increase in tone, poor gait pattern, etc. Pt would benefit with left standard cane for ambulation. May want to refer to a physiatrist.
I left PT and went to my PCP’s office. I showed her the note and broke down. So many things to think about. So much scary stuff. She assured me the brain MRI will help give answers. I can’t believe I have to walk with a cane. I’m in shock.
