It’s Asthma

I have no idea what took so long, but today is the first time I have been officially diagnosed with asthma.  I lungs03have moderate asthma according to my pulmonary function test (PFT).  The funny part is that I thought I did really well on the test.  I wonder what impact this diagnosis and treatment will have on my colds/flus/bronchitis, etc.  I am starting on a maintenance inhaler – Advair.  We’ll see how it goes.

I talked to Dr. F. today about my nervousness in seeing the neurologist next week and she reassured me.  I decided to ask her for tips on what I should and should not say at the appointment.  This is going to be my new strategy.  I want to be a better communicator with my doctors so that no one ever, ever, ever thinks any of this is in my head.  I want to be taken seriously.

Dr. F. suggested that I tell the neurologist that I have been having problems since I was 15 and that I should describe what I have been exeriencing for the past 5 months or so.  Got it.

I think Dr. F. thinks I have MS.  She is so kind and just mentions things like “You know, lots of neurological problems, things like MS are very treatable.”  We’ll see what the neurologist says.

I asked Dr. F. if we can check more on my thyroid.  I have been doing weight watchers since January and exercise an hour a day almost every day (by walking on the treadmill per suggestion of rheumatologist) and can’t lose a pound.  She’s going to send me for a thyroid ultrasound to look for nodules that might be causing more thyroid problems.

  1. I’m only a few blogs into your story… but there are already quite a few parallels in our medical stories. So I can’t help but wonder about things like Lyme’s disease and/or candida (mold) issues for you.

They’re starting to surmise that many of todays medical conditions with no known cause (i.e. MS, Parkinsons, Alzheimers,, etc) might be due to bacterial infections such as mold and/or spirochetes from Lymes disease.
